Rene Birocchi - Brazil

I am Ph.D. student at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) – São Paulo, Brazil. My research interests are technology-enabled education, e-learning and microfinance studies in development countries.

Professionally, I developed my career along business development area of multinational companies, where I was sales director for education industry (HUGHES NETOWORK SYSTEMS) and head of education (MICROSOFT BRAZIL); and Brazilian institutions like Brazilian Virtual University, the major private consortium of universities for undergraduate online courses (CEO position).

I have published articles about education in newspapers, magazines and Brazilian books; co-author of "Online Education", Brazilian book of the year - short list in the education category -, 2004 – “Jabuti” Award.

I have also participated as Educational and Management Consultant at Unesco and University of São Paulo.

Currently, I am working in my thesis project, dealing with the impacts of the implementation of technology-enabled education in microcredit programs in rural communities in Amazonas, Brazil.
